Nicholas Cope, R.I.L.K.O.’s Professor Emeritus, is arranging a tour to Orkney this summer from the 7th - 13th July, 2017.
A small group of eight people will spend four nights on the mainland of Orkney, visiting the ‘world heritage’ sites of Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar and Maeshowe, as well as many other well-known and lesser-known sites on these beautiful islands. A highlight on the mainland will be a visit to the Ness of Brodgar, during the first weekend when the archaeological site is open to the public.
The trip culminates in two nights on the remote northerly island of Papa Westray, where a remarkably well preserved five and a half thousand year-old Neolithic dwelling known as the ‘Knap of Howar’ is located. Nicholas’s book, written in collaboration with the previous R.I.L.K.O. Emeritus Professor Keith Critchlow, is entitled ‘The Knap of Howar and the Origins of Geometry’ (Kairos Publications, 2015).
For further information regarding the tour, including an itinerary and booking details, together with more information about the book and how to purchase a copy, see the website of Nicholas Cope:
